JOHN SYLAK
Coach, Athletic Trainer
I’ve always been an active person and my love for sports guided me towards my career choice of pursuing athletic training. I graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2007 with my Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, and soon after passed the BOC exam. Since then, I’ve completed two master’s degrees.
I started my career in athletics by working in the University at Albany Sports Medicine Department, a position that I held for 17 years. I’ve worked with many student-athletes and with many different team assignments. In my opinion, developing strong relationships with clients helps produce some of the best results.
Continuing education has always been a focus to keep advancing my career. Over the years I’ve completed certifications including ImPACT Concussion Training, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialization, and courses in myofascial cupping and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. Back in 2018, I completed the 2-day Fascial Distortion Model course, which fine-tuned my expertise in muscular fascia and the body’s connective tissues.
My background is strengthened by my history of being an adjunct instructor and teaching courses in sports medicine, motor learning and performance. I hope to utilize all of these tools to create a fun and pain-free atmosphere for everyone I work with.
